The basics
Two rules: nothing moves inside the box, and heavy things go at the bottom. Fill the gaps with paper or clothing so pieces don’t rattle, and don’t overload big boxes. Tape the base securely in a cross.
Crockery and glassware
- Plates go on edge (vertically), never stacked flat: they hold up far better.
- Wrap each piece in paper and separate glasses with cardboard or socks.
- Small box, well filled and marked FRAGILE.
Pictures, mirrors and glass
Protect the corners with cardboard, run tape across the glass (if it breaks, it won’t scatter) and wrap in bubble wrap. Always upright, never flat under other things.
The TV and electronics
If you’ve kept the original box, that’s the best option. If not, blankets and bubble wrap around the screen and always transport it upright. Take a photo of the back before unplugging the cables: re-wiring in 2 minutes.
Home trick: towels, sheets and clothes are free packing. Wrap fragile items in them and save space while you protect.
Appliances and furniture
Empty and defrost the fridge in advance. Secure cables and trays. Take apart what you can (table legs, shelving) and keep the screws in a bag taped to the piece itself. Protect the corners of wood with blankets and straps.
